AFRICA AS A COMMERCIAL AGRI INVESTMENT DESTINATION
Food security is a growing global concern. Currently there are over 7 billion people on earth, this number is on the rise and is expected to reach 9 billion people by the year 2050. Food production will need to increase at the same rate to meet the demand. Land will be at a premium and food prices will rise markedly. The African continent provides an attractive solution to this inevitability.
The cost of land in Africa is significantly lower than other continents and there is an abundance of fertile soil with a wide range of climates for agricultural diversity. Africa can feed itself and act as a breadbasket for the rest of the world. At the same time, the pressing argument for food security cannot be allowed to overshadow the potential impacts on human health and environment posed by irresponsible farming practices such as indiscriminate pesticide use.
Africa is not only the second largest continent; it also has a fast-growing economy and is positioned to become a global player when it comes to investment. Investment in Africa goes hand in hand with social upliftment and creating opportunities for the people of the continent.
